
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Rock Island Police Department responded to Longfellow School, 4198 7th Ave., after receiving information that a juvenile was hiding on the property with a firearm.
Officers responded to Longfellow, where administration had already placed the school on lockdown pending a search of the building and property, according to a Tuesday release. Members of the Rock Island Police Department, with the assistance of members of the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a room-by-room search for the involved juvenile and determined no armed subject was on the property and there was no threat to the students or staff.
While officers were on scene, the juvenile was located in the vicinity and was taken into custody without incident, police said. The incident remains under investigation; no further information is available at this time.
